Children go through stages in their lives where they benefit from emotional support and require assistance with behavioral issues, emotional regulation, and trauma among other things. Counseling may be for individuals, with parent(s) or caregivers, and/or with the entire family. I serve children ages 6 and up, with children between the ages of 6-10 requiring consultation with parents to make sure that virtual therapy will effectively meet their needs.
Virtual play therapy is a form of telehealth that enables children to engage in therapy through interactive activities with a therapist using video conferencing, allowing children to express themselves and work through emotional and behavioral challenges from home. Sandy facilitates therapeutic play through various methods, such as using virtual rooms, incorporating art, and playing online games, while also guiding children and families to use physical materials at home, like art supplies and toys. A tablet or computer is required for participation, and parent sessions are required after every 4 child sessions.

Adolescence is a time of great change and occasionally turmoil. This continues as young adults transition to college, often living independently and making decisions for themselves for the first time. Therapy can provide these young adults with essential tools for emotional regulation, resilience, and coping with stress, while also supporting their ongoing brain development and journey to independence.

Parenting can be challenging in the best of circumstances, and many times we can all benefit from some support and guidance. In other cases, children or teens are struggling, and their parents are seeking guidance on how to better support them. Parents who attend therapy and make changes within the family system can help their children in making big changes too! Contact me today to see how I might be able to help you and your family.

Family relationships are recognized as an important factor in psychological health and family well-being. At times, it makes the most sense to work with the family system as a whole to address a problem. In other cases, it makes sense to occasionally have family sessions, when the majority of therapy is with the individual. Family therapy aims to support the wider system including development of functional roles, boundaries and relationships between people who may or may not be related.
